Fast intramolecular processes

Due to the extraordinary high time resolution it is possible to follow the fundamental steps of ultrafast photoreactions. We find that in many cases the reaction proceeds as a ballistic wavepacket motion which causes a subsequent ringing of the molecular skeleton in those vibrational modes which contribute significantly to the reaction path. The analysis of the coherent vibrational excitations allows to reconstruct the reaction coordinate and to reveal the responsible mechanisms.
